volume 21, issue 6 end of summer 2020
I'm not sure how to start this update, and I meant to share this sooner.
As many of you know for the last few months, and during quarantine, I been trying to figure out what exactly is next. I finished my commitment with YWAM San Diego/ Baja officially in June. Moved all my belongings into my parents home, so that I may help them out during this time. I took some time away from home, with no distractions. And spent time to really seek God and ask for guidance. For a couple of weeks now I have felt this unrest about continuing with YWAM and going to YWAM Ships Kona later this month. I wanted to make sure it wasn't anything else, such as fear of doing something new. But I felt that it wasn't the right time for me to go. I felt God was tugging at my heart and asking me to stay home. This has not been easy for me to accept, as it has been a dream of mine to join YWAM Ships for sometime now. I have lots of peace but also know this is a big transition after being in full time missions for 18 yrs, I'm stepping away into something new. I will never be done with missions and ministry. It's just going to look different. I feel called to serve the local church, community groups and pray about another local opportunity. There are no words to describe how grateful I am for each of your for your commitment and prayers all these years, for standing by me. I feel as though God has done a shift in my vision and dreams while I have been home. |
The last couple weeks, now that I know I will not be going on any trips or serving in Mexico. I've had this nostalgic feeling. Seeing all my photos of my travels over the years, the 35+ countries God has taken me, all the wonderful people I have met. I will miss this "Missionary Life". But I also know I'm not done. God has called me back home. Missions will always be part of me, it's just going to look different.
It is a bit bittersweet for me to not go to YWAM Ships. But I also want to obey what He is asking me to do. I may not see the full picture yet, as I'm still in transition. But one thing I am grateful is my amazing family and friends!
To be honest, I have missed a lot of milestones, celebrations, birthday's, crisis, decisions in the lives of my loved ones. I have this longing to stay in one place and build roots, to get to know my family and friends all over again and just be part. To serve the local church, build a new community, get a job. these are all bug changes, but taking it one step at a time.
I know for many of us this has not been an easy year. There is chaos in the world and so much unknown. But we must keep our eyes on Him! We must be reminded that He is with us. And we must live a lifestyle of prayer and worship.

.My whole adult life, since I was 19yrs old. As God had called me to full time missions. I been going place to place, home to home, different countries, cultures, languages, religions, different foods and smells. I lived a life living out of a suitcase or a backpack, the airport life. Places so beautiful so exotic. There has also been a reality to living this lifestyle. The loss of dear friends, crisis, danger, sickness. I'm not saying that's all it was about. Many times I would find myself not knowing where God would take me next. But you know what? It was always worth it.
To see more souls being added to His Kingdom. Having the opportunity to bring the word to those who had never heard before. It was beautiful .And I'm not saying I won't do missions again, it's just going to look different. He has called me home. I don't know if I'll join another mission organization, only He knows .But for now, I am home. Thank you again for all your prayers and support for believing along with me. For your commitment, I want to see more of the U.S as I never really been much outside of California, Nevada and Arizona. I would love to visit friends and family. thank you!! Thank you for taking the time to read this update, for your continued prayers and support. Life has been a bit of a roller coaster, but so is the rest of the world. So much chaos, so much destruction, so much unknown. But no matter what , God receives the glory.
As some of you may know, I officially finished my commitment with YWAM San Diego/Baja. I was able to go back to Tijuana for a few days and pack up the rest of my stuff from my apartment. It was bitter sweet, I truly loved my home. I love my community in YWAM Tijuana and to be part of something so great. I know it won't be forever, but it was time. I had been with YWAM San Diego/Baja for almost 11yrs. This was not easy, but know I want to go where God is calling me to go.
Don't worry the story doesn't end there...

life continues,our new normal
Well in the midst of a pandemic, I been having some great family celebrations in June & July, trying to make the best out of our situation. In June, I had the blessing to celebrate my niece (best friends daughter) 3rd birthday with a birthday parade, our new normal for celebrations. Then got to celebrate Father's day and my birthday late June. My sibling and I were able to celebrate together, yes we are twins, yes things are different, but my love for my sibling will never change. We had a little celebration, cake and pool time. It was nice to be together (less than 10 people) and enjoy..before we got stuck with COVID.
As many of you saw, July was a bit rough for my family and I as my brother and I both caught COVID. I was able to quarantine and stay in a different location then my parents and grandma, so that I wouldn't put them more at risk. The 3 of them came back negative. Praise God my brother and I had mild symptoms and are now fully recovered. There was a moment one night where I just felt so ill, couldn't catch my breath, desperate to breath. In that moment I proclaimed healing over my brother and I, and by morning I was able to breath again. I'm back with my parents and back to our "normal quarantine life". Thank you again for all your prayers, words of encouragement, meal drop offs, gifts, phone calls, messages and text. It meant so so much to me.
After recovering from COVID, my dad turned 70! We had planned to do a bigger celebration, but due to our current situation was not able to. But it was still a great day!! I surprised my Dad with a zoom call with most of his family from Mexico. He was smiling from ear to ear. Then also had a little birthday parade, again he didn't expect any of this so it was really nice. Thank you for all who drove by to Celebrate my dad!

so what is next??
Well before I share what some of the plans are. I have had the blessing to continue to serve with TFHOC (The Father's House Church, Orange County). Pastors Matt & Bianca Olthoff are truly incredible, they have been such a blessing in my life during this season I been in California with my family. I been able to serve as part of the online prayer team, co-leading a community group via zoom, and also sharing on different social media platforms some of the great things this church has been doing in the community and what God has been doing. Many families have been blessed with meals from the food distribution outreach and 100s of meals have been given to Essential Workers. And recently TFHOC now has the keys to the new building, as they didn't have a place to meet of their own for almost 2 years. God is on the move!!
Well life has been interesting for many of us. I know for some this has been so difficult, so much sickness, death, anger, frustration, sadness. There is so much unknown with this pandemic. I remind myself daily to just keep my gaze on Him to keep my heart hungry for more. To just be still. Psalm 46:10
So as I mention in previous updates, I am not done with YWAM just yet. As of now the plan is to still join YWAM Ships, first going to Kona, Hawaii for some training perhaps as early as September. So what is YWAM Ships?? It is a ministry part of YWAM under University of the Nations that have provided vitally important surgeries, dental care, medical supplies, food, seeds, construction materials, development projects, training, and sharing Gods word to the isolated islands and rivers of the world
Early next year the plan will be to go to YWAM Ships New Zealand. It's so difficult to plan when there is still so much unknown and things keep changing on a daily basis. I will be in Kona hopefully from September- December. This of course if nothing else changes.

These are uncertain times, so much chaos in the world. I am taking a leap of faith to go to YWAM Ships as I have felt to go for a number of years. I know it's difficult for many. Many have loss their jobs, sickness, depression. I appreciate each of you, even in the midst of all this you take the time to pray for me.
Thank you thank you so so much!! Your such a blessing to me. Keep your gaze on Him. There will be struggles, there will be hardships, things out of our control. Do not give into fear, we must keep pressing on. We are not alone, we will overcome! Gods got this!!

Hi Friends & Family!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my latest update. I know we are living in time where there is so much pain, suffering, death, violence. These are not easy times, good days and day days, days where you just feel your heart so heavy. But in it, we are also seeing miracles, hearing testimonies. We must keep going, must keep striving, the enemy will not win! Keep your eyes on Him, there is no fear! Stand firm in Him, keep praying, keep believing, we will overcome. Psalm 46:10 |
I have been here in California since March 13th as most of you know. Think this is the longest I have been with my family since been in full times missions. I've been grateful to be home where I grew up, having some challenges, since I was in quarantine for first 8 weeks along with the rest of the world. But all in all, things have been good. I wanted to come and help my family during this time. Using this time to grow in His word, connect with others, help family and friends. I also been enjoying some quality time as a family, and also finally having the chance to connect with some friends and a little get together for my cousins 2nd birthday.
As well as help the local church as a virtual volunteer. And now will be helping co-lead a community group via zoom. The church I been helping is is called The Father's House O.C. They been a huge blessing for me during the season I been home, so many people have been reached with the Online Services and community groups, blessed to see God move in Big ways with this great tool!
I have still been very much connected with YWAM Tijuana, particpating in prayer meetings, staff meetings. I have missed so much community life, serving in our "Homes of Hope" builds and Hope Zone in Zona Norte, serving families and their amazing kids. But being here with my family has been my mission for now, so that I may prepare what's next.

new adventure, new journey
I have some great and big news. No, not marriage, but perhaps one day I will. As you know, I have been with YWAM San Diego/Baja for almost 10yrs in full time ministry. Most of time I have served at our base in Tijuana even a couple years in Las Vegas. It truly has been an incredible time, some good and bad, powerful God moments and also challenging ones. It has been my 2nd home, filled with wonderful friends many who I consider like family. But it is time to go. I have been praying about this since last fall, as I have also mentioned this in previous updates. I will officially be done with my commitment in Tijuana June 17th. It is bittersweet, but I want to go where God is leading me to go. But I am not done with YWAM.
Some of you might have remembered that I mention YWAM Ships not long ago. Well I can now announce I will be joining YWAM Ships staff in the next couple months. This has been a plan in the works for about 4 years. Many might remeber I was about to head to Papua New Guinea and had to cancel due to illness and emergency surgery.
Well I'm back to a clean bill of health and ready to go where He is leading me! I am so so excited!!!
I will first be going to YWAM Ships Kona, HI to do some training in the role I will be doing as Fleet support, using some of my administrative skills. I know administration is not for everyone, but I have learned to truly love it over the years. I'm not exactly sure when I'll be going to Kona, it will happen before August I believe when traveling is a bit safer due to COVID. I do know I will be there between 2- 5 months. I will then make my way to YWAM Ships New Zealand early next year!! I was there earlier this year, to do a prayer school and got to know many of the staff as well as talk to the director for YWAM Ships NZ called "Koha". We will be going to the surrounding pacific Islands to do Medical missions. It's going to be amazing!

So that's the big news!! I knew one day I would make my way to YWAM Ships, just had to wait for His timing. There are many things I still need to do to prepare. I will be going back to Tijuana this weekend to empty out my room in my apartment my roommate and I share. I will be saying my goodbyes to my friends and family.
In the next few weeks I will need to plan some logistics, doctor appointments, visa process and more to make my move to Kona and New Zealand possible. I really need your prayers and support. Many of these things will be a bit costly, but I have Faith, that God will take care of every single thing down to every detail.
Thank you again, for standing with me. For all your prayers and financial support. For sending me where I am being called to go

Dear friends and family,
Thank you for taking the time to read this update. This year has been so crazy, so many things happening. And I find myself not writing you from Tijuana, Mexico but from my family home here in Chino, California. I been here almost 9 weeks. It's been my new normal and "mission" for now. I been so grateful to be here with my parents and just helping them during this time.
As you know from my last update, COVID-19 has affected so many people around the world in different ways. Including YWAM around the world and YWAM San Diego/Baja in Tijuana who I been a part of for many years. Our students were sent home to finish their classes via zoom. International teams canceled, followed by local ministry projects as well. Some of spring Quarter schools were cancelled and many of our staff felt to go and be with their families during this time. We still have many of our staff with their families on campus, following the stay at home order and social distancing. We were able to start one project for our community. We raised over $24,000 to provide food distribution for about 400 families. It has been such a blessing to provide meals for these amazing families. Thank you for all those whose gave and praying.

Staying connected
I been able to stay connected with YWAM Tijuana via zoom. (To be honest, think I'm having more meetings now then when I actually was on campus) But it has been a great tool to have prayer meetings, Bible studies with a church called The Father's House OC. And few times a week also staying connected with friends overseas and local by video calls. We also started a 24/7 prayer chain with YWAM Tijuana since the beginning of Quarantine. Yes we have seen a lot of death, pain and suffering, but there has also been a lot of miracles. God is at work, lets continue to keep our eyes on Him!. |
Family, Laugh Cry Being here with my family has been great, but it's not always easy, I'm not perfect. We have our ups and downs, good days and bad days, but overall we are doing well. Definitely putting patience into practice often. I been able to see my brother and his family after almost 2 months. We are still being cautions, but it has been great to see each other again. Being able to be together is something I took for granted, I guess you just never know. It's been a true blessing to see my nephew smile and laugh with us, to play games together, to see friends on their Birthday's. Go on daily walks with dad (when the weather is not 100 degrees) Help in my mom's garden. We do what is possible to see keep going and see our loved ones during this time. We all need some joy in our lives. We will have days where nothing seems ok, or you just don't have any motivation. But we must keep moving forward. |
Thank you!! I have learned more and more about just being still in His presence. I am the kind of person that just likes to stay busy, be involved in many things, many projects, going going. But this is the season I am in, to just literally be still. To receive more from Him each day. To seek Him for guidance and strength. Plans have drastically changed, don't know what the future looks like, don't know when I'll be back doing full time ministry in Mexico or another place in the world. That in order to keep moving forward I just need to rely on Him completely. This is life for now. There will be good days some bad days, an overwhelming feeling. I know many are struggling with this "new normal" the working from home, or no longer having work, home schooling, (especially if this is your first time). Our students ,moving to the next grade with no celebration with others. The being away from loved ones, and only having a flat screen between us to connect. We will overcome, we will embrace each other again, we will celebrate once again. we will worship God in church again..we will!! Just stand Firm in Him! Psalm 46:10 Thank you for all your prayers and support as you are in mine. |

faith in the midst of crisis Pslam 46:10
Friends & Family,
I know it has been a while, but I wanted to make sure I sent you an update about where I'm at ,how things are in the midst of crisis, so many changes and unknowns, which I know many are also on the same boat. Our world has turned upside down in a matter of weeks. The COVID 19 has caused so much pain and suffering. I wanted to share how our YWAM Tijuana community has responded. Many YWAM bases around the world have responded in what we need to do to keep safe as YWAM, for our staff and students. As precaution we have halted receiving teams for the next 8 weeks. Our schools ended early, Discipleship Training school students were sent home as well and our other secondary schools, our leadership thought it would be best if they are with their families. Many staff also went to be with their loved ones during tis time. We will re-evaluate as a base after April 16th. We are looking at what we can do, not at what we CAN'T. Using technology to continue ministry in a safe way, practicing social distancing. We are also coordinating a way to stay connected with our Homes of Hope families, calling or texting, praying with them and sharing a word of encouragement. We are using this time to stay connected in different ways, having time slots for our staff to do 24/7 prayer and worship as a community. Praying for all those effected around the world. We also been using Zoom, as it has been a great tool for YWAM. Last week we had a word from Darlene Cunningham and YWAM bases from all over Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean all gathered for this special time electronically. This time has allowed us to completely focus on God, to rest in Him, trusting that He has not left us.
I decided to come and be with my family in California during this time, making myself available to help them in any way I can. I have been here for about 2 weeks. That was not the plan, but I know that God wanted me here. As Tijuana border has closed to non-essential, which would made it a bit more difficult to be here if I would have waited. I don't know what the next few weeks will look like or few months. This is mission for now until I am able to go back to YWAM Tijuana and continue to serve. To help my family, serve those around me who are in need, to reflect His love anyway I can.

Time in Aotearoa (New Zealand
I know it's been just over a month since I came back from New Zealand. But I just can't emphasize enough how grateful I am that I was able to be there and take part of the One Thing Internship, a 4 week Intercession & Worship course with YWAM Furnace, Tauranga. It was truly such an incredible time, met some amazing people, new friendships were made. A time to just rest and be still in His presence, to dream again, knowing those dreams and desires are from God and will be fulfilled in His timing. One month of giving Jesus my full attention, as life can be busy without taking a moment to stop and breath. It was a time to pursue Him for a short, intensive season. Having a opportunity to build a sustainable life of prayer. And growing in the desire to seek His face, growing in my intimacy with God. Even after being in full times ministry for 18yrs, you just never stop learning, never stop growing. It was a time God had set aside for me not knowing I would need all that I learned to get me ready for the situation we are currently going through.
YWAM Ship koha
And while being at YWAM Furnace I also had the opportunity to meet some amazing people with YWAM Ships Koha, New Zealand. It was about 4 years ago I was in the process of going to serve in YWAM Ships Papa New Guinea. I was ready, knowing I would be gone for 2 yrs. I was in the process of applying for a visa when everything was put to a stop. I ended having emergency surgery and my health declined. Many of you followed along with me in that long journey, going in and out of the hospital as doctor after doctor would give me different diagnosis. It took about 2 yrs to make a full recovery.
So YWAM Ship Koha is a medical ship located in Tauranga, NZ. A former cargo vessel but was renamed KOHA meaning "gift" or "offering" in a special ceremony held in Tauranga Harbour as part of its transformation into an aid ship to help remote Pacific island communities. I felt during my time in NZ God put it in my path again., almost like reminding, "Don't forget this dream". My heart is to go back and serve YWAM Ship Koha at some point after the summer. Since so many things are unknown, I couldn't tell you when that will be. But I know He is calling me back, to go and be of service to the remote Islands in the Pacific.
I don't have too much information about when this would take place. But I wanted to take the initiative and communicate what God has laid on my heart. At the moment, there are travel resections to even go back to YWAM Tijuana, Mexico. I really do miss out community, but have faith and trust that we are in His hands.

I know so much is unknown at this time. Life has been put on pause in a way. So much news of what is going on around the world. Many of us worried about our loved ones, as we can't even be near them at this time. But I know this is a time to seek His face, develop and grow your prayer life. And with God by our side through all this. Let's give Him glory! Let's Praise our mighty King! Just be still.

it's a new year!
Before I share with you about what is lined up for the next few months. I would like to thank each of you for making 2019 a great year! Thank you for standing with me, for your continuous prayers and financially support. Your partnership impacted many lives and many nations. Places like Mexico, Peru and Mongolia. More lives being added to the Kingdom of God! I am continually blessed by your words of encouragement, reminding me that I am doing the right thing, fulfilling Gods calling for my life . Thank you!
Christmas & New yearThanks to your support I was able to spend some great quality time with Family & friends during the Holidays. Especially quality time with my nephew who is a true joy. Being able to go with my family to get a Christmas tree and decorate it. I was able to cook Christmas Eve dinner for my family and I got to say..it was pretty delicious. Christmas day we exchanged some gift, more food . I was also happy to have my sister (sibling) from out of town. I reminder that we are called to love everyone.
We also had a cousins reunion on the 29th. It's nice to see my cousins with their own families. A time to just get together, enjoy a meal, catch up and laugh. We had over 40 cousins all get together. This was our 2nd annual cousins reunion and glad we had the opportunity to all meet up. |
Then on New Year's Eve I was able to be with my brother and his family and my best friend Leslie and her family. It was so great to be together as we brought in the New Year! We also had an opportunity to share what our goal, desires, dreams are for the New year! And know that 2020 will be even better. As we move forward and fulfill Gods will for our lives.
And as traditions follows, we were able to attend the Tournament of Roses parade New Years day. I been going to this parade every year since I was a kid. I missed a few in the previous year due to rain or when I was out of the country. But glad I was able to attend this year with family & friends!

new year new adventure
2020 is off to a good start and I'm excited to see what else God has in store. This past weekend I was able to be part of my first year of the New Year. We had over 100 people build 5 homes for 5 families. I truly enjoyed starting the year doing what I love. Being able to give a "First Home" toa beautiful family. Thank you for making it possible!

So here I am ready for what's to come next. I will be flying out January 16th to New Zealand to participate in a 4 week course called the One Thing Internship with YWAM Furnace, New Zealand. I am very exited to have this opportunity.
So what is OTI?
The One Thing Internship (OTI) is a four-week course that is focused on the foundational vision,
values, and core messages of the prayer movement. This programme is unique in that the
hosting YWAM community is marked by both a deep commitment to prayer as well as to a
wholehearted expression of missions in the nations, so central to the curriculum is the reality that
these two expressions of the kingdom of God (prayer and missions) must come together as one.
Throughout this internship, I will gain an understanding of why it is that we pray and worship,
how to cultivate these two realities within our own lives, how the fast-approaching return of the
Lord should change the way that we live, and what we must do to prepare our hearts and the
nations for His coming.
At this moment, I am still in need of funds to cover travel expenses and course fee. If you would prayerfully consider partnering with me, any amount will be appreciated. Thank you once again for all your prayers and support.
In His service, Teresa De Leon
